It was also a golden age for movies with classics like Back to the Future, Less Than Zero, Xanadu, Ghostbusters, E. T., all the Brat Pack Movies-St. Elmos Fire, Weird Science, The Outsiders, Pretty In Pink, The Breakfast Club and many others, captivating audiences across the globe. Whether listening to your favorite tunes or watching your favorite movie at the theater or on VHS tapes at home — it’s no wonder why so many people look back fondly on these memorable moments in entertainment history!
The 80's were also a time of great geo political events
The 1980s were an exciting and pivotal period for world politics. The end of the Cold War was a defining event of the decade, as it marked the official dissolution of the Soviet Union.
In addition to this momentous occasion, other significant events included President Ronald Reagan’s “Star Wars” speech which proposed a strategic defense initiative aimed at protecting against nuclear weapons, as well as his historic summit with Mikhail Gorbachev in Reykjavik. Other geo political moments during this time included Margaret Thatcher's election victory in Britain, Pope John Paul II's visits to Poland and Nicaragua, and Lech Walesa’s Solidarity movement in Poland — all inspiring movements that ushered in greater freedom and democracy throughout Europe. These geopolitical developments had far-reaching effects not only on their respective countries but also around the world — helping to shape today’s modern society as we know it!
The 80's were a time of great suburban community
The 80s were also a time of great suburban community. Neighbors often knew each other by name and could rely on one another in times of need — making it a comforting place to live for families across the country. Community events like block parties, yard sales, and barbecues created an atmosphere of camaraderie among those living in the suburbs. Backyard pools provided a place for fun during hot summer days while movie nights in local parks gave people an opportunity to come together as friends and neighbors. It was simpler times in many ways. Before botox, people cared less about looking perfect, and more about having fun with one another. Shopping at malls was also commonplace during this time period with popular stores such as Foot Locker, Pac Sun, Limited Too bringing about retail trends that remain relevant today!
It wasn’t uncommon for friendships forged in the 80s to last well beyond childhood — even continuing into adulthood. Growing up in tight-knit suburban neighborhoods allowed children to explore their independence while still having the comfort and security of being watched over by familiar faces around every corner. Whether playing outside until dark or learning important life lessons from trusted peers - these strong communities helped shape many individuals who went on to become successful adults later in life!
We miss the 80's because they were a time of great fun and carefree vibes
The 80s were a time of great fun and carefree vibes. It was the era in which people could just let loose, enjoy life and have a good time with no worries or concerns. From classic arcade/video games like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Brothers, Frogger, Sonic the Hedgehog- the upcoming Generation X was the first generation to immerse itself in video game culture! Whether playing board games like Trivial Pursuit or engaging in outdoor activities such as biking or roller skating — these treasured times brought about lots of laughter, conversations and lifelong friendships that still stay strong today. Going outside late at night without fear of danger in our neighborhoods is another aspect missing from this period that we look back on fondly. We did not have phones, we were present with one another! We miss those days because they allowed us to be truly free without any worry about what tomorrow might bring — allowing us to truly live each day to its fullest!
The 80's were a great era that will forever be remembered and cherished by many. If we could capture time in a bottle, this would be the decade catch! But maybe we can learn from those days. Borrow the vibes and transplant it into our own lives here in the now of 2023. Merge the attitudes with today's comforts and find new freedoms in our hearts and lives.
